SSHD
is on the move in more ways than one. First, we are an enterprising
and growing society, with an active group of young scholars. In
fact, we have almost as many student members as faculty members!
Our incredible group of student volunteers are working with Steering
Committee members in every capacity from the development of this
newsletter to the plans for our fourth biennial meeting.
Second,
we are moving along in our efforts to disseminate our work. By now
you should have received your first several issues of Research in
Human Development, our official journal, which first appeared ealier
this year. It is being widely acclaimed! We thank our editor, Jacquelynne
Eccles, and issue editor Richard M. Lerner, and our extremely competent
Managing Editor, Katie Connery for creating such a stimulating and
thoughtful inaugural issue. There are two more to come this year-equally
thought--provoking and citation-rich. If you have not done so already,
please contact your library to request a subscription to the journal.
We need to grow our subscription rate.
Third,
in planning our next meeting we are moving to the West Coast. Yes,
California, here we come! As you will read in this newsletter, SSHD
is making plans for its fourth biennial meeting in 2005 to be held
at Asilomar, CA. This is one step in our effort to make SSHD truly
a national organization. Please notify your colleagues and friends
on the West Coast of this exciting development. In addition to moving
west, we will be changing our format to include a call for papers.
We on the Steering Committee encourage you to watch for it, and
prepare a submission on the subject, "The Changing Life Course."
And
finally, we have literally moved our office of operation from the
Radcliffe Institute to the Institute for Applied Research and Youth
Development (IARYD) at Tufts University. The IARYD team is on the
ball and making things happen-the journal, the membership drive,
the plans for the next meeting. All of us owe them a great debt
of gratitude.
Please
help us to continue this march of progress by sending 10 colleagues
and friends an invitation to join the society. Fliers advertising
Research in Human Development can be obtained from Katie Connery.
Please email her at katie.connery@tufts.edu.
Please write and get a few to send to your colleagues. Tell them....this
is a must-have journal produced by a great group of people on the
cutting edge of developmental science.
