Despite major statistical and methodological advances, the field is in need of new methodological tools that integrate existing and new research, at different levels of analysis, account for bi-directional feedback processes and address the complexity inherent in change that occurs throughout the lifespan. Systems science methodologies (including system dynamics, agent based modeling, network analysis, etc.) are well suited to such endeavors, but have yet to be harnessed to their full potential by developmental scientists.
SSHD will hold its seventh biennial conference at Brown University, Providence, Rhode Island on October 28th -30th, 2011. The theme for this year’s conference will be Developmental Systems Science, and will include not only research presentations, but instructive methodology workshops. It has been increasingly recognized that human development operates at various levels (i.e. brain, cognition), and that many systems interact to shape developmental processes over time. This conference is designed to bring together students and researchers to showcase the latest thinking and research, as well as methods of collecting and analyzing data.
