Developmental Science Meets Systems Science
Jennifer Brown Urban, Ph.D.

Despite major statistical and methodological advances, the field is in need of new methodological tools that integrate existing and new research, at different levels of analysis, account for bi-directional feedback processes and address the complexity inherent in change that occurs throughout the lifespan. Systems science methodologies (including system dynamics, agent based modeling, network analysis, etc.) are well suited to such endeavors, but have yet to be harnessed to their full potential by developmental scientists.

President's Blog

Larry and I have heard from many of you who attended the SSHD conference in Ann Arbor that it was a tremendous success.  We were certainly pleased to have excellent weather and very few travel problems were reported.  For those of you who were part of our scientific program, we congratulate you on creating a meeting of high scholarly quality.  I believe our junior scholars found it a rare opportunity to meet with our more senior colleagues in both formal and informal settings.

EXTENDED SUBMISSION DEADLINE for Poster/Symposium Proposals: September 16, 2011

2011 SSHD BIENNIAL MEETING
DEVELOPMENTAL SYSTEMS SCIENCE

SSHD will hold its seventh biennial conference at Brown University, Providence, Rhode Island on October 28th -30th, 2011. The theme for this year’s conference will be Developmental Systems Science, and will include not only research presentations, but instructive methodology workshops. It has been increasingly recognized that human development operates at various levels (i.e. brain, cognition), and that many systems interact to shape developmental processes over time.  This conference is designed to bring together students and researchers to showcase the latest thinking and research, as well as methods of collecting and analyzing data.
